Roger Wells - Marathon Man

If you need inspiration to support Neurocare read Roger Well's story

In November 2007 Roger Wells enjoyed the trip of a lifetime to Everest base Camp. Within six weeks of returning home Roger was suffering from a head cold and earache. It emerged that Roger had developed a severe infection in his middle ear which had formed an abscess that leaked into his brain.

Within 2 days Roger was in intensive care at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and had surgery to remove the abscess along with a section of his skull to reduce the swelling. Chances of surviving were small and there was a risk of permanent brain damage and yet 3 months later Roger was home and it wasn’t long before he was back at work.

As a testament to his strength of character in April this year Roger ran the Sheffield ½ marathon and managed to raise £1,650.

Roger said “I realise that I am an extremely lucky person. Without the level of care I received at the Neurological Department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, particularly Mr Jeremy Rowe and his team, I would not be here today. Their state of the art equipment - provided by Neurocare - and the level of nursing care are phenomenal. I have been impressed with the dedication of all of the staff at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital, their patience, humour, good nature and enthusiasm for their works shines through. I wanted to thank everybody for their care and support and help the team at Neurocare to continue to help save and change lives.”
