Richard Bennett is the reason why we set up the Sickleholme Golf Day. This is now set to be an annual event

A Sheffield golfer is helping to raise thousands of pounds for charity in memory of his dad.

Robbie Bennett, aged 36, from Totley, is organising a Pro-Am golf day in memory of his dad Richard, a respected golf coach who has trained some of the region’s top professionals.

The golf day is being held in aid of Neurocare, which is one of Sheffield’s leading health charities. It funds equipment which benefits patients in the Neurosciences Department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Robbie said: “Sadly my dad died of a brain haemorrhage after falling at home. He was treated at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield and that’s why I decided to hold this day in aid of Neurocare.

“My dad knew lots of people through golf and was a regular face on the local circuit for decades. Many of those people will be there on the day, including some top local professionals and one of the country’s best female golfers.”

So far 22 two teams have signed up to take part in the day, which will also include an auction and raffle. Amongst the professionals taking part on the day will be champion golfer Alison Nichols, who has won several tournaments on the female golf circuit.
