Daniel takes the plunge to say thank you to staff

Daniel Kaye will be doing a sky dive for Neurocare to say thank you for the care his father received.

A Barnsley man will be flying high to raise funds for the Sheffield hospital which helped save his dad's life.
Daniel Kaye, aged 25, from Haigh, will complete a sky dive in May in aid of Neurocare, which supports the Neurosciences Department at Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

He is backing the charity after his dad Chris, aged 54, underwent life-saADVERTISEMENT ving brain surgery having suffered a freak accident at work.

Daniel, who is the director and founder of Nimrod Environmental Limited and Nimrod Landscapes, said: "My dad Chris had an awful accident while driving a demolition excavator at work. He was changing one of the grabbers, when he knocked one of the pins out using a metal bar and it sprung back and hit him in the face, smashing his chin and throwing him to the concrete floor, where he banged his head.

"He was rushed to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital where he underwent brain surgery. His jaw was rebuilt and he was given a tracheotomy which allowed him to continue breathing freely.

"But after a horrible few months the tracheotomy tube was removed and he's learning to communicate.

"Although it's been a tough time, the staff on the neuro ward were great.

"My girlfriend, Freya, suggested we do a sky dive together to raise money for the charity. We've already raised more than £2,000 for Neurocare, so there's no backing out now."

Daniel's dad is now in a rehabilitation centre in Keresforth, Barnsley.
