Neurocare has just funded a £70,000 Skull Base Endoscope for our fabulous Consultant Neurosurgeons (see past projects for more details) Saurabh.Sinha has recently been appointed to the unit and has taken over Mr Battersby’s pituitary work. Saurabh said “As such, I have been incredibly fortunate to have gained most from the endoscopes that Neurocare have kindly acquired for our unit.” “As luck would have it, we are using the kit on a patient who has a CSF leak next week. Prior to the purchase of the endoscopic equipment this would have meant a major operation through the head with a long recovery period. There is no doubt that it has been an invaluable tool in improving the care of our patients.” We also received a message from Mr Showkat Mirza, Consultant in Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Anterior Skull Base Surgery. This is when brain fluid is leaking from the brain space into the nose and predisposes to meningitis. In the past this operation was done by a craniotomy but nowadays it is done up the nose with endoscopes.
